International Folklore Festival and HKUD Dika

August-September

On the summer stage on the central town square, cultural and artistic societies from Croatia and abroad show all the splendor of folk costumes and rich choreography with songs and dance – intangible cultural and historical wealth that we are obliged to preserve and nurture with such events.

In 1808, at the request of the Pejačević family, Slatina was raised to the rank of a market town, which opened economic development and immigration of the population from other parts of the Habsburg Monarchy for the settlement. Traditional costumes give way to civil costumes that find their role models in German-speaking countries. In the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, in the market town of Slatina, women and men walk in civic clothes characteristic of that time. A touch of tradition remained in rural areas along the Drava River or in the hilly part. Skilled hands and an eye for detail can still be seen today on the costumes of these settlements. Meticulous details, an interesting combination of colors and motifs are characteristics of slatine space and represent a tradition that still lives on through the work of HKUD Dik.

From year to year, the hardworking members of HKUD Dika are dedicated to nurturing and promoting Slatina's native heritage, but also to the effort to promote the values of all peoples and cultures in order to preserve the cultural diversity of the Republic of Croatia.
